Replacing Pool Filter Sand

On average, you’ll need to replace the pool sand in your filter every 3 to 5 years. Just like rocks erode into the sand, those little sand pebbles also wear down into fine dust and no longer capture contaminants.

The sand will begin to ball up, and your pool water will cut its channel through it. Once this happens, you’ll notice your pool water isn’t as clean as it used to be. The interval between required backwashes will also shorten.

Changing the sand in your pool sand filter can be a messy affair. Call a Pinnacle professional if you’re unsure how to do it or don’t want the hassle. We are always happy to help.

Pool Filter Sand Replacement

As with most things, changing the pool sand in your filter is best before it stops doing its job. But it’s not always obvious. If you’re keeping up with regular maintenance and your pool water is still not as sparkling as you expect it to be, give us a call, and we’ll assess whether the pool sand needs to be replaced or some other issue.

We recommend changing your pool sand every three to five years, depending on how much the pool gets used. Since this is not part of your regular maintenance routine, contacting a professional pool service technician is advisable to take care of repairs that may damage your pool’s plumbing or equipment.
